Fighting Hunger. Restoring Dignity.

No Child in Vrygrond Should Go Hungry

RCGEN Foundation is the registered feeding scheme arm of the RCGEN family of organisations. We exist to address food insecurity in the Vrygrond community by providing nutritious, warm meals to children and families who need them most.

Every week, our dedicated volunteers and staff prepare and distribute meals across Vrygrond. We believe that access to food is not a privilege — it is a right. And we will keep showing up until no one in our community goes without.

Your donation feeds a family. Every rand donated to RCGEN Foundation goes directly towards buying ingredients, cooking meals, and distributing food parcels in Vrygrond.

The Need in Vrygrond

Vrygrond is one of the most economically marginalised communities in the Western Cape. High unemployment, overcrowding, and limited access to social services mean that many families — including young children — regularly face food insecurity.

Children who go hungry cannot learn effectively. Parents who cannot feed their families cannot work effectively. Food insecurity is not just a physical problem — it breaks the cycle of hope and opportunity for an entire community.

RCGEN Foundation was established specifically to address this gap. We do not wait for government programmes. We show up — every week, in Vrygrond — because our neighbours need us to.

How the Feeding Scheme Works

Every week, a small army of volunteers makes it happen. Here's how we go from donations to full plates.

1

Donations Received

Monetary donations, food items, and dry goods are received from generous donors, churches, businesses, and community members throughout the week.

2

Meals are Prepared

Our volunteer team prepares hot, nutritious meals at the RCGEN kitchen. We focus on balanced, filling food — especially for the children.

3

Distribution Day

Every week, meals and food parcels are distributed to families across Vrygrond — prioritising children, the elderly, and families in crisis.

4

Community Follow-Up

We connect families with other RCGEN services — RCGEN Group welfare support, Educare enrolment, and church community — for holistic care.
